The move came in the wake of unrest that had already closed over 100 factories.
Meanwhile, Md Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Industrial Police-1 said although security measures have been tightened but several garment factories in Ashulia remained closed today because of workers' protesting.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) announced an “emergency” press conference to brief reporters on the latest developments.
According to an official of the industrial police, workers from different factories in Ashulia's Baipail-Abdullahpur area demonstrated outside their respective workplaces on Monday and sought implementation of various demands. Around two dozen factories in Ashulia did not resume production despite the joint army and police operation launched to quell violence at Savar, Ashulia and Gazipur industrial zones since Monday night.
In the latest protest, workers have blocked Ashulia roads and are demanding jobs for both male and female in readymade garment (RMG) factories.
